Character Commitment, Community

It's not exactly a camp, nor a league...

Journeyman is a Learning Experience
A place for boys and girls to grow core values

Journeyman Basketball is a 501C(3) non-profit community organization designed to involve our youth in learning to discover their personal potential as a person and player as well as how to function as part of a team. Participants are expected to become responsible to themselves, their teammates, their families and the community.

Through the use of basketball we instill not just game skills, but life skills as well. Players learn not just ball handling, shooting and other fundamentals, but how to handle responsibility. Certainly athletic skills are rewarded, but some of the best Journeymen show leadership skills on and off the court. Our unique "point system points" or PSP reward players for more than scoring. Passing, rebounding and other key fundamentals are rewarded with this system as well. Every player can be great in their own way and we try to encourage every player to be their best.

Journeyman Basketball was founded by Jon Sanborn, who still heads it today. Jon, also known as "JP," created this organization not for himself but for the youngsters of the greater Exeter communities. The staff are all volunteers made up of parents, Journeyman alumni, civic-minded volunteers and the players themselves.

There are fees for players which help defray the costs of practice space, equipment, uniforms, referees and more. Through generous assistance of local businesses players only need to pay partially for the support they receive. If a player cannot pay, there are scholarship funds available through the Hanson Benevento Fund controlled by Treasurer Michael Rockwood. Journeyman never wants cost to be the reason a player doesn't join.

How Often we run Teamwork Sessions

Journeyman Basketball conducts three teamwork sessions a year.

Mid January til the end of March (Winter Session)
Mid June til the end of August (Summer Session)
Mid September til the end of November (Fall Session)

"Character, Commitment, Community"
Our three pillars of responsibility

What good is any athlete without the first two of the above traits? And what good is an individual without respect and involvement of the third. Journeyman wants to help all players develop a solid foundation in all three areas.

"What matters is how you play TODAY"

We expect each player to show up on time ready for each new practice, ready to learn something new and ready to work for his team. We put aside whatever happened yesterday, good or bad, and start anew. We all work towards improving a players ability and attitude. No one brings his or her "A" game everyday, but everyone can put forth their best effort daily.
