We Reward Excellence!
Winning a special award from the
Journeyman staff is a mark of success
Our players put a lot into their game. The very best efforts are recognized and rewarded through a variety of awards. The recipient of the majority of our awards is chosen by the consensus of the players and coaches through a thorough voting process. Only the Most Improved recipient and players inducted into the Hall of Fame are selected by staff and the Board of Directors.
Usually, there is but one winner from each Junior and Senior division. Sometimes, there is occasion where multiple athletes are equally deserving. In these instances, awards may given to two or more deserving players. Likewise, no award may be given if there are no standout candidates.
And don't forget to see our Hall of Fame page!

Best Defensive Player Award
Players who receive this award have shown outstanding skills in playing defense. These players are chosen by consensus of the coaches and players who have observed them on the court and in practice. Solid footwork is the key to this award. In some cases, the award may be given to more than one recipient. However, if there is more than one recipient for a given session, the order of their listing is not indicative of ranking. Go! |

The Larry Bird Award
Given to the Journeyman that doesn't know the word I. Larry Bird may be the finest player to ever hit the parquet floor. Certainly he had great skills, innovative playmaking abilities and leadership skills. But most of all, he was always invested in his team, inspiring teammates to work harder and dominate their opponents because they worked together. Players who receive this award are great overall players, but receive the award for their investment in hustle and teamwork. Go! |

Most Improved Player Award
Sometimes there is one player who has worked extra hard and demonstrated marked improvement. This award is not necessarily given every session. However Journeyman Basketball likes to recognize players who put forth the effort to improve their game. They accept constructive criticism and stay pursuant in their goal of being a better player that contributes to their team in a multitude of ways. We judge this improvement from one session to the next, so it is rare that you will ever see a rookie win this award. Players are selected by consensus of the coaches. Go! |

Journeyman's Most Valuable Player Award

Team Leader Award
For players that show outstanding team leadership. There are always players who show leadership skills. Sometimes these players may also have great technical skills as well, but this award focuses primarily on the ability to create team spirit, cohesion and solid communication to keep their team together throughout the session. This is perhaps the easiest award to give because in a sense it is the players themselves who show us who is leading and who is following. Go! |

Most Valuable Parent Award
For exemplary participation or assistance to the Journeyman organization. We created this special award to help recognise the effort and participation of Journeyman parents. It is our most recent award category and, unfortunately, doesn't list all the great parents who have helped make Journeyman such a success. The parents listed below put the kids first and never needed to be reminded of what this program is all about. Go! |

Volunteer Award
Given to the most valuable volunteer of the Journeyman organization. Without the help of volunteers Journeyman would only be a dream. There have been dozens of people who could be recognised. Some are parents, some are former players, some have simply donated skills or time to help us succeed. It is important to publicly recognise these people listed. These are people who work behind the scenes to provide you with a better community. Go! |

The Sixth Man Award
For the player who's effort is never in question and possesses a strong hidden quality... heart. Journeyman teaches the importance of teamwork and effort regardless of how great your skills are. Everyone brings something to the team or they bring it down. A sixth man is a very consistent player. There may only be 5 players on the court at any given time, but the sixth man is always there to do whatever task is asked of him. He may not be the highest scorer or pull down 15 rebounds, but he is always in the game. He never gives less than he is capable and constantly sets the tone for effort that the rest of the team should follow. Go! |
